RDT Controller Working Position (CWP) | REMOTE & DIGITAL TOWERS | ADVERTORIAL | The RTC setup requires that every ATCO is cross trained on each airport they work for, but also proficient in using the newest technologies in a completely digitalised workplace to assure a seamless communication with all airports, pilots, and colleagues. This is where Frequentis DFS Aerosense has a full solution suite that covers the needs of any RTC project from technology applications to operational expertise. Any remote digital tower contains the Integrated Controller Working Position, high-resolution display technology and a combined control panel for the different applications. This includes flight strips, camera control, control functions for airfield lighting and Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS). 5 reasons why ANSPs move to a Remote Tower Centre Some of the key reasons why ANSPs and airports move to a RDT set up have been addressed thus far, but if we summarise what should be considered as the five key reasons for ANSPs to move in this direction we can state the following: • Decreasing the costs of ATC operations e.g., costs related to the overall maintenance of the tower, the integration and maintenance of new technologies and the need for modernisation and recruitment. • Centralising a pool of ATCOs making it easier to attract, retain and train staff with the right competence levels. • Improving profitability of smaller airports by optimising ATC costs and thus being able to offer ATC services in places that could not previously afford it. 33 © DFS |
